Wake

By Dr. Shaheeda Ahmed

These violin strings
Play a sorrow melody
Another note
In a senseless tragedy

The winter was bleak
The storm’s eye impending
The wrath unseen
The fear ascending

Now wet days in Spring
Long and swollen with loss
The worst was worse
With no just cause

We’ll battle these winds
A band of hearts and minds
Rewrite this song
For all mankind.
