If you have not yet had the opportunity to join us at the Toronto International Summit on Leadership Education for Physicians (TISLEP), this should be the year. With the leader role now fully entrenched through CanMEDS2015, Competency by Design underway and new accreditation standards in effect, the need to integrate leadership into our training programs has never been as explicitly articulated.

But the real need to integrate leadership training goes well beyond such rules and regulations. Today’s health care system, in all its complexity and unpredictability demands a broad base of knowledge and skills to navigate the challenges with proper timing and stride. This year we bring our international focus to diversity, equity and inclusivity, examining the implicit biases at a personal and organizational level, related to gender, race, and interprofessional teams that create “Challenges for Leadership Education”. This theme complements ICRE 2019’s theme: Diversity in Residency Education: Training in a World of Differences.

We welcome as our inspiring plenary speaker, Dr. Virginia Roth, Chief of Staff at the Ottawa Hospital who will open the day with her presentation, “Diversity: The future of health care leadership”. As in previous years, the rest of the day will feature a wide range of leadership education topics as well as innovation presentations. But new to this year’s agenda is a lunchtime learner session designed to create a community of practice that includes connecting learners interested in leadership with mentors in order to promote local and system level change.

TISLEP 2019 promises to be the best ever. Register now  and join us Wednesday September 25, for this outstanding pre-ICRE event. We look forward to seeing you in Ottawa!
