Remembering a colleague who died from COVID-19
Dear members,
It is with great sadness that we report that a Fellow has died from COVID-19 while heroically serving the medical profession. It is a startling reminder that the threat of COVID-19 is very real. We were heartbroken to learn of Dr. Dao’s untimely passing and extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and colleagues left behind. We have immense respect for his sacrifice in service to patients, specialty medicine and the broader community.

Huy Hao Dao, MD, FRCPC (1974-2020)
Dr. Dao was certified by the Royal College in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. At the time of his death, he was working on epidemiological investigations at the Direction de la santé publique de la Montérégie in Longueuil, Que. He was also a professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Sherbrooke. Through his recent work, Dr. Dao was helping to track where people who tested positive or who died of COVID-19 contracted the virus and whom they may have come in contact with. He is remembered by colleagues for his passion, intelligence and devotion to his work and scholarship, which included research to combat Canada’s opioid crisis.
