We are seeking feedback from members on a proposed change of name for the Area of Focused Competence (Diploma) in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Current name

Proposed name change

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy

Rationale and process for change

The change to “Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation” was requested by the AFC Working Group for the newly recognized AFC (diploma) discipline. The rationale presented for this request is that the discipline has evolved since its recognition in 2017, to include the infusion of hematopoietic cells that have been modified to target specific diseases and/or infection under the scope of cellular therapy.

The request was reviewed by the Royal College’s Committee on Specialties during their April 8-9, 2019, meeting. The committee agreed to proceed with the intent toward the change. They are now inviting feedback from stakeholders before a decision is made.
