Fernand-Wilfrid Turcotte, MD, FRCPC, died on May 16, 2020, in Montreal, Que., at age 78. Dr. Turcotte was certified by the Royal College in Community Medicine in 1981. Co-founder of the department of Social and Preventive Medicine at Université Laval, Dr. Turcotte was a renowned health advocate whose contributions greatly influenced recognition of health problems linked to asbestos and tobacco consumption. William Allan Silver, MD/CM, FRCSC, died on May 3, 2020, in Regina, Sask., at age 87. Dr. Silver was certified by the Royal College in Orthopedic Surgery in 1967. Born in Saskatchewan, Dr. Silver practised in his native province where he also served the Saskatchewan Medical Association. Read more about Dr. Silver.

Ralph Frederick Hull, MD, FRCPC, died on April 23, 2020, in Alberton, P.E.I. at age 87. Dr. Hull was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1970. He graduated from the University of Toronto with his medical degree in 1959 and practised Psychiatry in Peterborough, Ont., until his retirement. Read more about Dr. Hull.

Debra Andrews, MD/CM, FRCPC, died on May 27, 2020, in Edmonton, Alt., at age 66. Dr. Andrews was certified by the Royal College in Pediatrics in 1986. Dr. Andrews devoted her medical career to enhancing pediatric care. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing clinical and educational programs that focus on developmental pediatrics across the country. Read more about Dr. Andrews.

Michael J.A. Kelly, MBChB, FRCSC, died on June 20, 2020, in Ottawa, Ont., at age 89. Dr. Kelly was certified by the Royal College in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1962. An Oxford University graduate, Dr. Kelly moved to Canada where he practised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. for over half a century. Read more about Dr. Kelly.

Dwight Irving Peretz, MD, FRCPC, died on May 27, 2020, in Vancouver, B.C., at age 89. Dr. Peretz was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1965. In addition to his accomplished medical career, Dr. Peretz is also remembered as the young boy who delivered undercover messages to a secret radio operator for transmission to American intelligence officers in Japanese-occupied Shanghai during the Second World War. Harold Gregory Walker, MD, FRCPC, died on July 3, 2020, in Glace Bay, N.S., at age 83. Dr. Walker was certified by the Royal College in Diagnostic Radiology in 1971. Former president of the Nova Scotia Medical Association, Dr. Walker is remembered as a medical educator who was passionate about training the next generation of health care providers. Jan Thorleif Braaten, MD, FRCPC, died on April 18, 2020 in Ottawa, Ont., at age 83. Dr. Braaten was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1971 and in Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1985. In addition to teaching, Dr. Braaten practised Endocrinology and Metabolism, and conducted research on diabetes in different countries across the globe. Read more about Dr. Braaten.

Dora Ann Stinson, MD, FRCPC, died on July 25, 2020, in Halifax, N. S., at age 81. Dr. Stinson was certified by the Royal College in Pediatrics in 1984. She was passionate about neonatal medicine and actively contributed to enhancing the care for the children. Read more about Dr. Stinson.

Pierre Ronald Dupuis, MD, FRCSC, died on July 3, 2020, in Saint-Colomban, Que., at age 77. Dr. Dupuis was certified by the Royal College in Orthopedic Surgery in 1972. He served as a volunteer on Royal College’s Orthopedic Surgery Examination Board for ten years. Read more about Dr. Dupuis.

Wilson Roman J. Gasewicz, MD, FRCPC, died on June 30, 2020, in Barrie, Ont., at age 77. Dr. Gasewicz was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1977. Dr. Gasewicz obtained his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1968. He is described by those who knew him as a compassionate and dedicated psychiatrist. Read more about Dr. Gasewicz.

William Gary Selman, MD, FRCSC, died on July 3, 2020, in Calgary, Alt., at age 75. Dr. Selman was certified by the Royal College in General Surgery in 1979. He practised as a general surgeon at the Holy Cross Centre and Rockyview General Hospital. Read more about Dr. Selman.

John Alexander Rankin, MBChB, FRCSC, died on May 9, 2020, in Upper Kingsclear, N.B., at age 73. Dr. Rankin was certified by the Royal College in General Surgery in 1978 and in Vascular Surgery in 1984. Dr. Rankin had a successful medical career in New Brunswick where he also trained residents. Geoffrey David Taylor, MD, FRCPC, died on July 17, 2020, in Canmore, Alt., at age 68. Dr. Taylor was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1983. For almost three decades, Dr. Taylor served as a volunteer on Royal College’s Infectious Diseases Examination Board. An ardent health care advocate, Dr. Taylor co-founded the Northern Alberta HIV program and initiated the first Infection Prevention and Control program in Alberta. Read more about Dr. Taylor.
