Michel Aubé, MD, FRCPC, died on December 23, 2020, in Saint-Lambert, Que., at age 75. Dr. Aubé was certified by the Royal College in Neurology in 1974. A renowned and award-winning neurologist, he worked at the Montreal Neurological Institute Hospital until his retirement in 2015. He was also a former member of the Royal College Neurology Examination Board. Read more about Dr. Aubé.

Warren Thomas Blume, CM, MDCM, FRCPC, died on September 13, 2021, in London, Ont., at age 86. Dr. Blume was certified by the Royal College in Neurology in 1970. The co-founder of one of Canada’s largest epilepsy units, he was professor emeritus of Neurology at Western University and named a member of the Order of Canada in 2012. Read more about Dr. Blume.

Peter Boris Dent, CM, MD, FRCPC, died on September 25, 2021, in Hamilton, Ont., at age 85. Dr. Dent was certified by the Royal College in Pediatrics in 1965. He founded Canada’s first multi-disciplinary program in Immunology and Virology and, while chair of the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster, founded what is now known as the McMaster Children’s Hospital. Samuel William French, MD, FRCPC, died on December 25, 2020, in Ranchos Palos Verdes, CA, USA, at age 94. Dr. French was certified by the Royal College in Anatomical Pathology in 1983. A prolific researcher, especially on alcoholic liver diseases, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Research Society on Alcoholism. Read more about Dr. French.

Alan Wilfred Harrison, MD, FRCSC, died on October 2, 2021, in Markham, Ont., at age 95. Dr. Harrison was certified by the Royal College in General Surgery in 1955. A former chief of surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, he was also a longtime Royal College volunteer. He served on examination boards for Internal Medicine, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Physician Medicine and Rehabilitation. Randall (Randy) A. Junck, MD, FRCPC, died on June 23, 2021, in Red Deer, Alta., at age 72. Dr. Junck was certified by the Royal College in Emergency Medicine in 1986. Before his retirement in 2019, he practised for 47 years at the Rockyview and Holy Cross hospitals in Calgary. He also helped to establish a full-time emergency department in Red Deer. David Edward Lacey, MD, FRCPC, died on June 23, 2021, in St. John’s, N.L., at age 60. Dr. Lacey was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1997. Driven to become a doctor and passionate about his job, he worked many years at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. A memorial scholarship has been set up in his name with Team Broken Earth. Janet McElhaney, MD, FRCPC, died on October 21, 2021, in B.C., at age 67. Dr. McElhaney was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1990) and Geriatric Medicine (1991). She worked at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ont., and was a former member of the Royal College Geriatric Medicine Examination Board. Read more about Dr. McElhaney.

Norton M. Medline, MD, FRCPC, died on August 10, 2020, in Toronto, Ont., at age 85. Dr. Medline was certified by the Royal College in General Pathology (1966) and Dermatology (1979). He loved to travel and was devoted to many causes. Read more about Dr. Medline.

Scott James Murray, MD, FRCPC, died on August 28, 2021, in Halifax, N.S., at age 66. Dr. Murray was certified by the Royal College in Dermatology in 1987. Before his passing, he practised his specialty for 34 years. He was an associate professor of medicine at Dalhousie University and twice served on the Royal College Dermatology Examination Board. Gnanapragasam (Dr. Cristy) Navaneelan, MBBS, FRCPC, died on February 25, 2021, in Cornwall, Ont., at age 69. Dr. Navaneelan was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1991. He is remembered for his compassion and care for his patients. Read more about Dr. Navaneelan.

Angus Ian Rae, MBBS, FRCPC, died on July 9, 2020, in Victoria, B.C., at age 91. Dr. Rae was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1968. Born and raised in England, he took a research post in San Francisco in the 1960s and later worked in Seattle and Spokane, WA, USA, before moving to Vancouver where he set up and ran a renal unit at St. Paul’s Hospital. Megan Lees Roberts, MC, FRCPC, died on June 29, 2021, in Vancouver, B.C., at age 44. Dr. Roberts was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 2007. She was a consultation liaison psychiatrist, and member of the Royal Columbian Hospital and Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. She also held several leadership positions. Gulshan Sawhney, MBBS, FRCPC, died on September 9, 2021, in Milton, Ont., at age 64. Dr. Sawhney was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1991.Born in India, he completed his Canadian residency in Nova Scotia. There, he practised for many years while his children grew before moving to Milton, Ont., and working in the local hospital. Read more about Dr. Sawhney.

Mariana Pradier Silva, MD, FRCPC, died on September 4, 2021, in Kingston, Ont., at age 63. Dr. Silva was certified by the Royal College in Pediatrics in 1987. She worked as a physician at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre for over 30 years and as a professor at Queen’s University. She was also a former member of the Royal College Pediatrics Examination Board. Read more about Dr. Silva.

Robert (Bob) Snihura, MD, FRCPC, died on August 7, 2021, in Schomberg, Ont., at age 77. Dr. Snihura was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1974. For over 20 years, he worked on staff at the St. Michael’s Hospital, Division of Internal Medicine. He finished his career as chief medical director at Crowne Life, Canada Life and RBC. Jose F. Tellez-Zenteno, MD, FRCPC, died on October 1, 2020, in Saskatoon, Sask., at age 48. Dr. Tellez-Zenteno was certified by the Royal College in Neurology in 2014. At the time of his passing, he was head of the Saskatchewan Epilepsy Program — the only program of its kind in the province. He was a strong advocate for the Telemetry Unit. I'm not sure whether the college is aware of the fact that Elaine May Binns name Parker MB BS London FRCP Canada passed away on 24 January 2021. She was 88 years old Dr. Elaine Binns was certified by the College of December 1971. Qualified medicine from the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1957. She practised as an anaesthesiologist at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg from 1971 to 1992 then moved to New Zealand where she practised for a further 10 years

I remember Al Harrison giving weekly lectures to all the final year residents in all the surgical disciplines in preparation for their Fellowship Exams. He was a natural teacher and we all benefited immensely from them. He also was my examiner at my “Orals” . A long time ago but still resonating with me.
