Roger Plante, MD, FRCSC, died on October 2, 2019, in Montreal, Que., at age 88. Dr. Plante was certified by the Royal College in General Surgery in 1961. He was a graduate of the University of Montreal where he obtained his medical degree in 1957. Read more about Dr. Plante.

Quintine “Quintus” Ratnayke, MD, FRCPC, died on October 5, 2019, in Ancaster, Ont., at age 81. Dr. Ratnayke was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1989. He was a graduate of the University of Colombo, where he obtained his medical degree in 1970. Read more about Dr. Ratnayke.

Todd Mainprize, MD, FRCSC, died on June 10, 2020, in Toronto, Ont., at age 49. Dr. Mainprize was certified by the Royal College in Neurosurgery in 2007. He was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his medical degree in 1996. Dr. Mainprize was the division head of Neurosurgery at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. He and his team were the first in the world to use focused ultrasound waves to successfully open the blood-brain barrier of a living patient. Read more about Dr. Mainprize.

Todd Stephen Owatz, MD, FRCSC, died on October 15, 2020, in Rossland, B.C., at age 49. Dr. Owatz was certified by the Royal College in General Surgery in 2001. He was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, where he obtained his medical degree in 1996. Read more about Dr. Owatz.

Marlène Gauthier, MD, FRCPC, died on November 2, 2020, in Outremont, Que., at age 69. Dr. Gauthier was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1980.  She was a graduate of Laval University where she obtained her medical degree in 1975. Read more about Dr. Gauthier.

Leanne Dahlgren Scott, MD, FRCSC, died on December 21, 2020, in Vancouver, B.C., at age 48. Dr. Scott was certified by the Royal College in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2001. She was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan where she obtained her medical degree in 1996. Read more about Dr. Scott.

Douglas Alden Watt, MD, FRCPC, died on January 15, 2021, in Sydney, N.S., at age 63. Dr. Watt was certified by the Royal College in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1990. He was involved in the planning of a Regional Rehabilitation Unit for Cape Breton at Harbourview Hospital where he worked for many years. Read more about Dr. Watt.

Ronnie Si-Wah Chan, MD, FRCPC, died on February 21, 2021, in Niagara Falls, Ont., at age 44. Dr. Chan was certified by the Royal College in Gastroenterology in 2008. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto, where he obtained his medical degree in 2003. Read more about Dr. Chan.

Wayne John Edwards, MD, FRCPC, died on April 13, 2021, in Lethbridge, Alta., at age 66. Dr. Edwards was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1996. He was a graduate of the University of the West Indies in Jamaica where he obtained his medical degree in 1980. Read more about Dr. Edwards.

David James Lyons, MD, FRCPC, died on May 5, 2021, in Kanata, Ont., at age 70. Dr. Lyons was certified by the Royal College in Diagnostic Radiology in 1985. He was both chair and medical director as he pioneered the Ontario Association of Radiologists (OAR) CBMD Facility Accreditation Program and he played a vital role in the OAR’s continuing medical education program.
