Robert Gordon Bankier, MBChB, FRCPC, died on January 10, 2019, in Agassiz, B.C., at age 92. Dr. Bankier was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1949. He was formerly director of Forensic Psychiatry for the Province of Manitoba and director of psychiatric services at Chilliwack General Hospital. Read more about Dr. Bankier.

Benedict Joseph Cookey, MD,FRCPC, died on April 13, 2019, in Dartmouth, N.S., at age 77. Dr. Cookey was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1977. He served as head of the intensive care unit at the now defunct Camp Hill Hospital, before becoming an assistant professor at Dalhousie University. Read more about Dr. Cookey.

Augustine J. Cunningham, MBChB, FRCPC, died on January 19, 2019, in Courtenay, B.C., at age 93. Dr. Cunningham was certified by the Royal College in Public Health in 1972. He taught and practised medicine in many parts of the world, including alongside Mother Teresa in India. Read more about Dr. Cunningham.

Ross Davis, MD,FRCSC, died on April 12, 2019, in Melbourne Beach, FL, U.S.A., at age 87. Dr. Davis was certified by the Royal College in Neurosurgery in 1972. Recognized as a pioneer in stereotactic radiosurgery and neurostimulation, he was the co-founder and former president of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society. Jean-Maurice Dennery, MD, FRCSC, died on February 10, 2019, in Gloucester, Ont., at age 87. Dr. Dennery was certified by the Royal College in Neurosurgery in 1963. He was widely considered the “best neurosurgeon” by his patients. Read more about Dr. Dennery.

Jeffrey Howard Ennis, MD, FRCPC, died on April 21, 2019, in Dundas, Ont., at age 65. Dr. Ennis was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1994. He was the founder and former director of Ennis Centre for Pain Management. Read more about Dr. Ennis.

James Coryell Fallis, MD, FRCSC, died on January 6, 2019, in East York, Ont., at age 89. Dr. Fallis was certified by the Royal College in General Surgery in 1960. The inaugural head of Emergency Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children, he also served on the Royal College’s Emergency Medicine Examination Board (1983-1986). Richard King-Brown, MD, FRCPC, died on May 2, 2019, in Lethbridge, Alta., at age 99. Dr. King-Brown was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1972. For more than three decades, he practised Internal Medicine at Campbell Clinic. Read more about Dr. King-Brown.

Douglas Gordon Kinnear, MDCM, FRCPC, died on May 11, 2019, in Westmount, Que., at age 92. Dr. Kinnear was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1957. Bohdan Walter Krushelnycky, MD, FRCPC, died on March 25, 2019, in Honolulu, HI, U.S.A., at age 57. Dr. Krushelnycky was certified by the Royal College in Neurology in 2000. He was well-known for his work as a clinical neurologist and as a neuroscience researcher. Read more about Dr. Krushelnycky.

Paul Louis Landrigan, MDCM, FRCPC, died on March 30, 2019, in Halifax, N.S., at age 93. Dr. Landrigan was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1962. His illustrious career included serving as the inaugural head of respirology at Victoria General Hospital and as president of the Canadian Thoracic Society. Read more about Dr. Landrigan.

Lauren Irene McCurdy, MD, FRCPC, died on June 5, 2019, in London, Ont., at age 70. Dr. McCurdy was certified by the Royal College in Diagnostic Radiology in 1981. A former director of breast imaging at St. Joseph’s Hospital, she was integral in the implementation of the Ontario Breast Screening Program in London. Read more about Dr. McCurdy.

Danielle Robitaille, MD, FRCPC, died on April 22, 2019, in Montreal, Que., at age 62. Dr. Robitaille was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1986) and Hematology (2000). She worked as a hematologist and served as head of the Test Centre at Montreal Health Institute. Read more about Dr. Robitaille.

Peggy Lou Erlandson Ross, MD, FRCPC, died on March 10, 2019, in Vancouver, B.C., at age 84. Dr. Ross was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1972. As one of the first women in many regards in the profession, she was a proponent of gender equality in medicine. Her efforts extended to the Royal College where she served three consecutive terms on the Advisory Committee on Equity Issues (1995-1997, 1997-2000, 2000-2002). Read more about Dr. Ross.

Donald Eric Rowland Roy, MDCM, FRCPC, died on April 18, 2019, in Ottawa, Ont., at age 85. Dr. Roy was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1972. During his long career, he served as team physician for the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Rough Riders. Read more about Dr. Roy.

Miriam Hope Schaffrin, MD, FRCPC, died on May 2, 2019, in New Westminster, B.C., at age 79. Dr. Schaffrin was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1972. She earned her medical degree at University of Saskatchewan in 1963.

Marc Omar Shokeir, MD, FRCPC, died on March 28, 2019, in North Battleford, Sask., at age 49. Dr. Shokeir was certified by the Royal College in General Pathology in 1996. A dedicated pathologist and laboratory administrator, he was an active member within the medical community. He served on the Royal College’s General Pathology Examination Board (2009-2010). Dennis Xuereb, MD, FRCSC, died on May 22, 2019, in Bettendorf, IA, U.S.A., at age 75. Dr. Xuereb was certified by the Royal College in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1973. In between his private practices, he worked at Edgerton Women’s Health Centre and taught at the University of Iowa. Read more about Dr. Xuereb.
