In memoriam (April 2021)
Laurent Gervais, MD, FRCPC, died on December 21, 2019, in Montreal Que., at age 90. Dr. Gervais was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1972. He was among one of the first psychiatrists to work at the Albert Prévost Pavilion (now the Psychiatry wing at the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur-de-Montréal) where he practised for over 40 years. Léopold Eugène Genest, MD, FRCPC, died on May 22, 2020, in Brossard, Que., at age 93. Dr. Genest was certified by the Royal College in Diagnostic Radiology in 1958. He was a graduate of Laval University, where he obtained his medical degree in 1953. Read more about Dr. Genest.
John Brooks Fotheringham, MD, FRCPC, died on October 7, 2019, in Kingston, Ont., at age 89. Dr. Fotheringham was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1982. He served on the board for Epilepsy Kingston and the Ryandale Shelter for the Homeless. Dr. Fotheringham was also a member of the Grant Committee of the Community Foundation. Robert Isaac Merritt, MD, FRCSC, died on January 13, 2021, in St. Catharines, Ont., at age 94. Dr. Merritt was certified by the Royal College in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1956. After retiring from clinical practice, Dr. Merritt served many years as a regional coroner and a national hospital accreditor. Read more about Dr. Merritt.
Aldo Frank Colantonio, MD, FRCPC, died on December 27, 2019, in Mississauga, Ont., at age 89. Dr. Colantonio was certified by the Royal College in Diagnostic Radiology in 1972. He had a long and successful career as a radiologist, retiring at the age of 85. Read more about Dr. Colantonio.
Patrick C.W. Greaves, MD, FRCPC, died on July 7, 2020, in Newmarket, Ont., at age 95. Dr. Greaves was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1972. He was a graduate of the University of London, where he obtained his medical degree in 1950. Read more about Dr. Greaves.
Henry Berry, MD, FRCPC, died on December 8, 2020, in Toronto, Ont., at age 90. Dr. Berry was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1960. He served for many years as the neurologist-in-chief and the director of the Department of Neurophysiology at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Read more about Dr. Berry.
Chi Nan Chen, MD, FRCPC, died on September 28, 2020, in Vancouver, B.C., at age 97. Dr. Chen was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1983. He had a long and successful career as a psychiatrist, retiring at the age of 85. Read more about Dr. Chen.
Francis William Rundle, MD, FRCSC, died on November 25, 2020, in Tucson, Ariz., at age 90. Dr. Rundle was certified by the Royal College in Otolaryngology in 1964. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto, where he obtained his medical degree in 1955. Read more about Dr. Rundle.
Thomas William “Tom” Shaw, MD, FRCSC, died on October 5, 2020, in Wolfville, N.S., at age 88. Dr. Shaw was certified by the Royal College in Ophthalmology in 1976. He was a graduate of the University of London where he obtained his medical degree in 1962. Read more about Dr. Shaw.
