In memoriam (April 2019)
Aseem (Ashim) Prakash Chakravorty, MBBS, FRCSC, died on January 16, 2019, in Calgary, Alta., at age 94. Dr. Chakravorty was certified by the Royal College in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1968. When he retired from practice in 2011, he held the distinction of being one of Calgary’s longest-serving OB-GYNs. Read more about Dr. Chakravorty.
Stephen Couban, MD, FRCPC, died on March 19, 2019, in Halifax, N.S., at age 58. Dr. Couban was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine (1993) and Hematology (1994). A former president of the Canadian Hematology Society and recognized leader, he served as head of the Division of Hematology at Dalhousie University. Read more about Dr. Couban.
Martha Lou Donnelly, MD, FRCPC, died on January 10, 2019, in Vancouver, B.C., at age 68. Dr. Donnelly was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry (1983). Recognized as a pioneer in her field, she contributed to the founding of Geriatric Psychiatry as a subspecialty in Canada. Read more about Dr. Donnelly.
Robert Dupuis, MD, FRCPC, died on February 25, 2019, in Orleans, Ont., at age 90. Dr. Dupuis was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1965. He is remembered for his keen mind, clinical skills, humility and approachableness. Read more about Dr. Dupuis.
Man Pang Lau, MBBS, FRCPC, died on January 3, 2019, in North York, Ont., at age 84. Dr. Lau was certified by the Royal College in Psychiatry in 1968. In his nearly five decades of practice, he held many positions. These include acting head of the Institute for Addictions Research Foundation of Ontario. James L. McCallum, MD, FRCPC, died on January 14, 2019, in Ottawa, Ont., at age 101. Dr. McCallum was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1949. He obtained his medical degree at McGill University, medical class of 1943.
Ahmed Soliman, MBChB, FRCPC, died on February 21, 2019, in Pickering, Ont., at age 44. Dr. Soliman was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 2012. He earned his medical degree at the University of Assiut (Egypt) class of 1998. He did his postgraduate training at the University of Ottawa and a fellowship at the University of Toronto.
Joseph (Giuseppe) Dalla Vedova, MD, FRCPC, died on February 25, 2019, in Fonthill, Ont., at age 90. Dr. Vedova was certified by the Royal College in Internal Medicine in 1962. After a long career in private practice in Welland, Ont., he retired in 2012. Linda Ann Wynne, MBBS, FRCPC, died on January 8, 2019, in Ottawa, Ont., at age 64. Dr. Wynne was certified by the Royal College in Anesthesiology in 1989. She served at the Civic Campus and Chronic Pain Clinic of the Ottawa Hospital. She also previously volunteered in the Royal College’s Anesthesiology Examination Board. Read more about Dr. Wynne.
