Health care equity | Specialty data | 5 takeaways from Council
Dear colleagues,
- How can we make health care more equitable? Dr. Jeffrey Turnbull, who works with some of the most vulnerable populations in Canada’s capital, explores new models of care and proposes future competencies for community-centred care in his 2021 Professor-in-Residence lecture: “Health Equity in 2021: Social Accountability Through the Lens of the Most Disadvantaged Communities.” Watch Dr. Turnbull’s lecture.
- What are the workforce trends affecting your specialty? The Royal College Medical Workforce Knowledgebase (MWK) — newly updated with data from 2015-2019 — provides insights on the composition of Canada’s current and future supply of physicians, for 60+ specialties and subspecialties. Explore the MWK dashboard.
- The Royal College has a new Data and Informatics Governance Committee, which was approved at the June 2021 Council meeting. Council members were also briefed on plans to align the CanMEDS Framework with emergent societal issues and how EDI principles will factor in Council’s structure.
