Announcing the Royal College’s new Executive Director, People and Inclusion

Effective April 11, 2022, Melissa Beckette-Batchellor has joined the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as its Executive Director, People and Inclusion.

Ms. Beckette-Batchellor comes to the Royal College with over 20 years of experience in human resource leadership in the municipal, private and public sectors, including in health care.

In her previous role as director, human resources, at Durham Children’s Aid Society in Oshawa, Ms. Beckette-Batchellor was a trusted member of the executive team. She supported the development of a new strategic plan and built capacity and resilience within the organization to support equitable outcomes for families, children and youth. In light of the impacts of COVID-19, she engaged staff to reimagine their workplace and supported transitional change throughout the organization.

She also worked at Sinai Health System as a human resource manager and worked with managers and directors in areas such as performance coaching, change management, mediation and negotiation.

While working in the Violence against Women sector, Ms. Beckette-Batchellor applied an anti-oppression, equity, diversity and inclusion lens in developing workshops for women in a local jail; spoke about power, privilege and oppression; and advocated for funding with provincial governments.

Ms. Beckette-Batchellor has a Bachelor of Arts – Psychology from Brock University and a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management from Durham College. She has received Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) and Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL) certifications.

Many thanks to Bonnie Seidman for her wonderful leadership at the Royal College these past 22 years. Ms. Seidman will be retiring on May 31, 2022.
